This is from\u00a0May 11, 2014, a counter-rally against Zaitokukai in Osaka Nanba, drowning out Zaitokukai spokesman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=6747\">Sakurai Makoto<\/a>. This way the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=12389\">narrative doesn&#8217;t split between the Newcomers and the Oldcomers<\/a>, as discrimination towards these two groups is very different. But counter-demonstrator DO bear\u00a0signs that say &#8220;<em>jinshu sabetsu<\/em>&#8220;, or racial discrimination. Good. Looks like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=12162\">Urawa Reds\u00a0fans&#8217; \u00a0&#8220;Japanese Only&#8221; banner\u00a0last March<\/a> finally\u00a0cracked that rhetorical nut.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The use of the word &#8220;shame&#8221; (<em>haji<\/em>) once again to express displeasure, but no signs saying how NJ are residents too and such deserve rights. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=12356\">As I&#8217;ve argued before<\/a>, until we make that connection, there&#8217;s still a layer of &#8220;othering&#8221; going on here.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The use of the same rough language and simple drowning out of xenophobic\u00a0messages through noise and chant. Fighting fire with fire.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The popularization of the &#8220;f*ck you finger&#8221; (aka &#8220;The Bird&#8221;, not in common use in Japan in my experience until now).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Other videos of demos and counter demos are welcome in the Comments Section.
