Thanks for your support!<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Hi Blog. \u00a0From time to time Debito.org gets sent information from NJ residents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?s=official+harassment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">being harassed by Japanese officialdom and businesses for the most basic things<\/a>. \u00a0Such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=15863\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">checking into a hotel <\/a>or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=15584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">using a bank<\/a>. \u00a0Or being treated as objects of mistrust in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?s=%22Blame+Game%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official &#8220;Blame Games&#8221;<\/a>. \u00a0Or being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=15785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">demanded unnecessary steps<\/a> just to live their daily lives or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=15584\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conduct regular business<\/a>. It encourages racial profiling even further, in addition to what you already have at Japan\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?s=Onur\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">hotels<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=15559\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">other public accommodation<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/whattodoif.html#checkpoint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">police instant ID checkpoints<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=6506\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tax agencies<\/a>. \u00a0(See <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=NHy9CgAAQBAJ&amp;q=tax#v=snippet&amp;q=tax&amp;f=false\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here too<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Such as the following case below, where Chugoku Bank is demanding a Visa Check in order to maintain (not open; maintain) a bank account. \u00a0(In their words, &#8220;we have elected to confirm the period of stay for customers whose period of stay and other details have not been confirmed&#8221; \u00a0Meaning their nosying into somebody&#8217;s visa status is not even under the pretense of some legal requirement.) \u00a0And of course, in this era of identity theft that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?p=15750&amp;cpage=1#comment-1755694\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">even foreign governments warn you against<\/a>, Chugoku Bank wants to make a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.debito.org\/?s=photocopy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">photocopy of the person&#8217;s ID, it turns out, for no reason whatsoever but reflex<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/community\/2019\/07\/24\/issues\/love-leave-not-real-choice\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">immigrants are not to be trusted<\/a>&#8221; mindsets proliferate around democracies worldwide, remember where many of them take their cues from: \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/community\/2018\/03\/07\/issues\/white-supremacists-japan-love-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Japan<\/a>. \u00a0PM Abe, remember, is &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/community\/2018\/03\/07\/issues\/white-supremacists-japan-love-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trump before Trump<\/a>&#8220;, and <a href=\"http:\/\/debito.org\/opportunism.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">even Abe had his antecedents<\/a>. \u00a0Another milepost on the march towards normalized ethnostatism worldwide. \u00a0Debito Arudou, Ph.D.<\/p>\n<p>\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/<\/p>\n<p><strong>From: DF<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Subject: Being made to show my gaijin card to my bank<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Date: December 12, 2019<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>To: &#8220;debito@debito.org&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hi Debito,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>I recently got the attached postcard from my bank. Is this legal? They claimed that they are doing so at the request of the government, which I&#8217;m sure is true, and that they need a copy for &#8220;filing&#8221;, which I am not sure is true.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I told them that the card can usually only be requested by a police officer or an immigration agent. I finally relented only after they explained that they also photocopy other customer&#8217;s driver&#8217;s licenses. I offered my driver&#8217;s license, but they declined. I noticed that other than my visa status (PR), there is really no info on there that they don&#8217;t already have.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Who is in the right here, legally?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>You may use my story on your site, there must be other people getting this kind of notice from their banks. Initials DF is fine.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Do you know of the specific law that states who may or may not request or copy a zairyuu card? I tried to look, but didn&#8217;t find it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I want to email Chugoku Bank&#8217;s head office and try to get them to change their policy at all of the banks, not just my branch. I also want my photocopy returned to me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I don&#8217;t begrudge the workers at the branch, the teller tried to make a copy, I stopped her and she said that the postcard mentioned a copy. We looked at it together and it doesn&#8217;t say anything about a copy. She immediately bailed out to a higher authority and I saw that man make a phone call. He then called me over to a private side booth to talk to me. You are still in the right, legally. \u00a0The thing is, the laws I have (the <em>Gaitouhou<\/em>) pertain to the old Gaijin Card, which is very clear who can inspect the Gaijin Card. \u00a0Only police, Immigration Officials, and MOJ representatives.<\/p>\n<p><b class=\"\">&#8220;The Foreign Registry Law, Section 13, Clause 2.
