Free for observers. <\/p>\n<p>(2) Kyoto University of Foreign Studies 60th Anniversary Event<br \/>\nImagine Peace<br \/>\nOctober 26 &#8211; October 28, 2007 at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine Peace\u201d aims to make concrete contributions towards the achievement of the United Nations Millennium Development Goal Number 1: the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger.<br \/>\nJoin us. Take action. Let\u2019s take a step towards a world without poverty.<\/p>\n<p>\u25cfIMAGINE EVENTS\u25cf<\/p>\n<p>1. Action Plan Model United Nations Conference<br \/>\nOct. 26: 6 pm-9 pm<br \/>\nOct.27: 9 am-8 pm<br \/>\nOct.28: 9 am-7 pm<br \/>\nParticipants will represent one of the world\u2019s countries on one of six committees. Before the conference, delegates will research their country\u2019s poverty problems and policies, poverty issues in general, and actual plans to reduce poverty. Each conference committee will try to agree on one \u201cAction Plan\u201d, related to UN Millennium Development Goal Number 1, which the committee can actually carry out after the conference. Let\u2019s make the world a better place step by step.<br \/>\nParticipants: All ages and nationalities welcome.<br \/>\nCapacity: 192 people (number of the UN member states) *Registration is required in advance<br \/>\nLanguages: English and Japanese<br \/>\nRegistration Fee: 3000 yen for delegates only; free for observers<\/p>\n<p>2. Participants will be placed in groups by lottery reflecting the inequalities in the food distribution situation in today\u2019s world. Some will enjoy the food of the world\u2019s richest people while others will eat the food of the poorest people. Our aim is to think deeply about poverty and hunger. We will share feelings and ideas in a discussion about reducing poverty and hunger.<\/p>\n<p>3. Charity Party Oct.27 from 7 pm \u2013 Details will be announced later on the website.<br \/>\n4. Images of Peace Oct. 22- 28<br \/>\nAn exhibition of drawings from Japanese children and from children from all around the world. The theme is \u201cLet\u2019s put our strength together. Keynote Speakers<br \/>\nBetty Reardon<br \/>\n&#8211;founding Director of the Peace Education Center at Teachers College Columbia University and the International Institute on Peace Education<br \/>\n&#8211;an initiator of the Hague Appeal for Peace Global Campaign for Peace Education<br \/>\n&#8211;more than 40 years of experience in the international peace education movement and 25 years in the international movement for the human rights of women<br \/>\n&#8211;has served as a consultant to several UN agencies and has published widely in the field of peace and human rights education, gender and women&#8217;s issues<br \/>\n&#8211;nominated for the &#8220;1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kikuo Morimoto<br \/>\nActing Director and founder of the Institute for Khmer Traditional Textiles<br \/>\n2004 laureate of the Rolex Awards for Enterprise \u201cfor breaking new ground in areas which advance human knowledge and well-being\u201d<br \/>\nMOVED BY THE FAILURE OF CAMBODIA\u2019S COUNTRYSIDE to recover from decades of war, silk expert Kikuo Morimoto left his job in Thailand in the 1990s to set up silk fabrication workshops in the hinterlands of Cambodia. His goal was to help impoverished villagers resurrect traditional silk production. His vision has grown, and he is now replanting trees needed to produce silk, reviving traditional weaving and providing profitable work to hundreds of people making heritage-class textiles.
