Hi Blog. \u00a0As a Weekend Tangent, and a corollary to yesterday’s blog post about the debate on definitions of Domestic Violence in Japan<\/a>, here is a discussion from a psychologist on what sort of person will probably be most likely to take advantage of “violence” that is not physically violent in nature: a bully, who uses collective attack and parental alienation as a means to extract revenge on a spouse. \u00a0Under Japan’s increasingly blurry definitions of serious matters of violent behavior<\/a>, this means that bullies will also be able to enlist the authorities’ help in carrying out their bullying. The emotionally abusive bully who engages in mobbing (or parental alienation) revels in the excitement produced by their animosity. It produces a pleasurable buzz or rush in them.\u00a0Westhues<\/a> (2002) refers to this as \u201cthe euphoria of collective attack.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Parental Alienation and Personality Disorders<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

People that have no compunction about using their kids to hurt their exes seem to fit the profile of the emotionally abusive Cluster B personality<\/a> disorders (Borderline Personality Disorder<\/a>,\u00a0Narcissistic Personality Disorder<\/a>,\u00a0Antisocial Personality Disorder<\/a>). These individuals play the\u00a0professional victim<\/a> as they\u00a0emotionally bully<\/a> anyone who confronts, challenges, or criticizes them. They don\u2019t recognize appropriate boundaries, won\u2019t accept personal responsibility for their actions\u2014in fact, they blame you for the horrible things they do and always have an excuse to justify their indefensible behaviors.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

If your ex is actively or passively alienating your child(ren)\u2019s normal affection toward you, he or she was probably emotionally abusive while you were together.\u00a0Parental alienation is her or his way of continuing to abuse and hurt you via remote access. Generally, most bullies don\u2019t see themselves as such. If you confront your ex about this behavior, they\u2019ll deny it and blame\u00a0you for your deteriorating relationship with your child(ren), even as you make every effort to be a present and involved parent.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
