TOKYO-TO--Tokyo Women's Christian University is seeking applicants for a full-time position as a teaching assistant to begin April, 1999.

QUALIFICATIONS: Native-speaker competency in English with a BA or BS degree. University teaching experience is preferred, and Japanese conversational ability is also desired.

DUTIES: Teach ten 90-minute classes per week and assist with entrance exam marking.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: 334,000 per month, housing allowance and bonus. Contract is for two years and may be renewed only once.

Comments: Pay is decent (provided that the bonus is the normal between five and six months' basic salary total) but the courseload is heavy--six classes is the typical maximum for Japanese academics. Moreover, capping the contract at only one renewal goes against Ministry of Education preferences.
