Hi Blog. It’s a bit of a busy time for me right now (come to think of it, when is it not?), so let just put up a quick pic of me looking all happy and such for getting my copy of “Embedded Racism: Japan’s Visible Minorities and Racial Discrimination“.

It’s my first hardcover book published in the United States. How sweet it is. Just wanted to share the joy. Holding your new book in your hand is one of the greatest feelings an author can have. May you all experience the feeling for yourselves someday (if you haven’t already). Dr. ARUDOU, Debito

Congratulations! Yes – it IS – maybe no writer gets over that feeling – holding the thing in your hand. Congrats!!! Looking forward to reading it.

  • I want the book so muci, but hey…! It lists on amazon for more than a hundred bucks! 14,000 yen and 13,000 yen on e format. Something wrong here…?

    — What’s wrong is that’s how much academic hardcover books cost nowadays, I’m afraid. Not my pricing decision. Sorry.

  • Mark in Yayoi says:

    Debito, good for you!

And what a great, joyful photo — how about using that one on the back cover of your next book?

  • Huge accomplishment. Congratulations! I don’t suppose a Japanese language version is headed to the stores any time soon?

    — Not anytime soon, sorry.

  • Congradulations I felt the same way when I published my textbook this past summer. Enjoy the moment and keep writing since you help keep a good balance between with whats right and wrong with Japans society. Im planning to get your book with my University book budget to help enlighten my 1st year students here. By the way is it also for sale on soft copy ?

    — Not yet. Softcover comes out in a year, I hear. Thanks very much.

Amazon offered 35% discount for the Kindle Edition until last month. Now it’s getting back to $109.72. I’m not sure if they will reduce the price for the hardcover when paperback version is out, but I think the latter one should be much cheaper.

My best bet is to visit Library of Congress or any university libraries(in the US or any nation) that are planning to reserve the book.

For those of you living in Japan, if you are interested, you might want to come to Tokyo and visit the National Diet Library(国会図書館) to get access to Debito’s dissertation online or Meijigakuin university library for the hardcopy.
