Hi Blog. As advertised in my previous blog entry, I gave a speech at Waseda today. You can download my Powerpoint presentation at

https://www.debito.org/waseda012208.ppt

And the paper grounding this presentation at

https://www.debito.org/wasedapaper0108.doc

It went very well. I should have a recording of the event, and I’ll release it as my next podcast. Arudou Debito in Meguro, Tokyo.

    Hi debito,
Laurel from Hirosaki here. I enjoyed your powerpoint (online). It was very informative and concise. In April I have a Intercultural Communication class which I teach in Japanese. Do you have a Japanese version of the PP that I can download (copy) to show my students? Also where can I get a Japanese (original) version of Sakanaka’s Big and Small Japan. I went to his website, but I didn’t know how to find it.
    Cheers,
    Laurel

–ALL MY POWERPOINTS (E AND J) ARE DOWNLOADABLE FROM http://www.debito.org/publications.html#SPEECHES. HAVE A LOOK AND SEE IF YOU CAN FIND WHAT YOU NEED THERE… AS FOR SAKANAKA, DUNNO, SORRY. HIS WRITEUP IN ENGLISH IS ON DEBITO.ORG AT http://www.debito.org/sakanakaonimmigration.htm

  • Before I came to live in Japan I would say I had a view that can only be described as looking through “rose tinted glasses”. However, now being here the reality is somewhat different. I personally believe that if Japan does not alter its attitude towards NJs in all its guises, then by 2050 Japan will be no more relevant in the world than say the Philippines is today. Even in the Philippines today, a country that is regarded as poor 3rd world etc, has far better immigration policies and human rights than Japan.

But I’m sure the die-hards will say, so what, at least we are still ethnically pure….!!!

    QED.
